Aligning Facial Stretches & Other Services for Healthier Smiles

Face Yoga, also called Myofunctional Therapy, is an exercise-based form of treatment focused on helping to improve oral muscle posture and function. Dr. Prather likes to describe it as physical therapy for the face, head, and neck.

Dr. Prather considers myofunctional therapy an important tool in maximizing the outcomes of other treatments. Orofacial myofunctional disorders can often impact outcomes if not addressed in a comprehensive approach to treatment, including myofunctional therapy in Franklin, TN.

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. OMDs may affect, directly and/or indirectly, breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, stability of orthodontic treatment, facial esthetics, and more.

Taking Care of Myofunctional Disorders

Dr. Prather employs her training daily in addressing myofunctional disorders when assessing patients for tethered oral tissues, breathing reeducation, sleep-disordered breathing, oral and facial growth and development as well as airway disorders.

Dr. Prather received her myofunctional training through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and has continued her training through various other organizations and groups. She is always learning new ways to help patients improve their overall health and function.
